This week's reading

I recently started reading the Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin. I also started watching the HBO series after I read the first book, because I usually like reading the books before watching a TV or movie adaptation. I'm now on book three, A Storm of Swords

Rather than purchase paperbacks, I opted to get the Kindle version for my PC. No, I don't have a Kindle...yet. I also downloaded the Kindle app to Lonnie's Droid X so I can read on the go.

I still want a Kindle someday. As much as I read, I would love being able to take my books everywhere with me and download magazines and newspapers as well. I enjoy magazines, but to me, they are a resource waste. I have several I'm trying to wean myself away from.

I digress. So far, I have really enjoyed the Game of Thrones series. I'm a long-time sci-fi and fantasy fan, so these books are right up my alley. The characters are so interesting. I find myself turning pages so I can find out what happens to one of the Starks or the Lannisters next.

I highly recommend this series if you like period fiction, sci-fi and fantasy. There are dragons, magic (but not overly done) sword fighting, knights and adventure.

I'm also reading various magazines that I have on subscription, which I'm trying to pare down. This week it's Country Living, and I'm waiting on my Lucky and Garden Gate to arrive for June.

Fun with makeup

Even though I don't wear makeup every day - and don't wear much on the days I do - I still enjoy playing with makeup and trying out new looks. I'm also an Avon Independent Representative! I'm hoping to put together a series of before and after shots of me and possibly makeovers of other people as time goes on.

I'm not a professional makeup artist, but I have been honing my skills by practicing and watching videos from Makeup Geek, Lisa Eldridge and Nicola and Samantha at pixiwoo. I favor a more natural look, so MUG wears more makeup than I'm comfortable wearing on a daily basis. However, her techniques are great and she's gorgeous. Lisa, Nicola and Samantha are equally gorgeous and have lovely accents, so they are fun to listen to as well as watch. They also offer a lot of every day looks, which is what I'm going for. Each of them are fabulous and have something different to offer, so I recommend checking them all out if you have time. I warn you: the videos are addictive!

I'm in the process of building my makeup stash, trying out new things and figuring out what I don't like. I have pretty impressive wish lists at Avon, e.l.f., Sephora, Stila and Ulta. These are all things to be wished and saved for after some necessities and bills are paid, so I do with what I have for now.

Here's what is in my makeup drawer as of today:

Couponing

I have recently ventured into the world of couponing. I'm not what you might call an extreme couponer, but I certainly don't mind saving a few bucks. I don't have the time, the storage space or the organizational skills to pull off extreme couponing.

I love finding things on sale and then finding a coupon that makes it even cheaper!

Some of the sites I've found that have helped me are listed below:

Hot Coupon World
SmartSource
Coupons.com
Cellfire
Coupon Network
Shortcuts

You can load digital coupons to your shopping card at several of these sites. If you do a search you can find blogs, discussion forums, and tons of information about couponing.

Manufacturers also have printable coupons available on their web sites.

P&G
General Mills
Kellogg's
My Coke Rewards

There's so much information about couponing out there on the internet, and I just can't distill it into one post. The sites are out there, so do a little searching!
