The arm party....party

I still like arm parties. For those of you who don't know what an arm party is, Google is your friend. Short explanation? It's a stack of bracelets on your arm, the taller and more mixed up the better.

I've actually been doing this for a number of years, off and on, but now it has a name. I've heard that The Man Repeller coined the term. You can see examples on her blog here. Whoever is responsible for it, it's a fun name for something I've always done.

So, if you want to participate in the arm party party, stack 'em up, pile 'em up, pack 'em on and take a picture. Post about it on your blog and then come back here (to the home page) on Labor Day to add your link to the mix.

See you Monday!

Missoni for Target

If you haven't already heard, Missoni is doing a line for Target. The pictures and prices can be found here:

Missoni for Target

I'm really digging a couple of the pieces, but especially the accessories. I can integrate the accessories into my wardrobe much easier and much more affordably than the wardrobe pieces.

So, when September 13th rolls around, I might just have to splurge if the budget will allow. What are your plans, if any, for this collection?

How to wear a denim shirt

I bought a denim shirt last year at Walmart in the women's department. It's fairly form fitting, has pearl snaps and a vaguely Western influence to it. I've mostly worn it to work outside during the winter, but I'm trying to come up with ways to dress it up a little for casual Fridays and manage not to have a heatstroke. Even in winter a lot of layering is out of the question for me because I just get too hot.

I really like the way it looks and the cut is flattering, AND it was fairly cheap so I want to get some mileage out of it. I won't be wearing it with jeans, so I guess I'm going to dig out some skirts to pair it with this Fall and Winter.

Here are some ideas I've pinned at Pinterest:

As a general rule, I don't wear long sleeve shirts under cardigans or sweaters, even in the winter. It's much too bulky and does nothing for my figure. Did I mention it's also too hot? I may source a sleeveless denim button down shirt for that purpose only.

What say you? I think dressing up my poor neglected denim shirt with skirts, boots and jewelry is the way to go. Otherwise it's just going to be relegated to work wear or the back of the closet, and I'd hate to do that.

New Account!

I've recently migrated all my Reader subscriptions and Blogger to my Modern Country Mom Google account since I'm trying to get away from my old e-mail address. The only reason I'm doing this is because I want everything on one account and the old e-mail has my married name, which I changed after my divorce.

Everything else should pretty much stay the same.

Bathroom makeover project

I've always hated my master bathroom. It looks the same as it did five years ago when I moved in, and I haven't really had the money to redecorate it like I've wanted to.

Here is the before. It's not pretty.

The double vanity.

Behind the door - a single shower stall.

What I do like about this bathroom is that it has plenty of storage. None of it is close to the toilet, though.

The ugly. The carpet is permanently discolored from a leak we had behind the wall. We had to cut up the wet carpet because it smelled and we had to figure out exactly what was leaking.

The leak was coming out of the pipe going into the shower head. It leaked for a while before we figured out where it was coming from. YUCK! We had to rip the wallboard down to fix it.

The punch list:
  • Rip up carpet
  • Remove trim strips and fake wood "molding"
  • Replace wallboard
  • Prime and paint walls
  • Install new flooring
  • Replace lighting
  • Replace/remove or re-frame mirrors
I'm trying to put together a budget, and I know that the vinyl flooring and light fixtures will be the most expensive items. The most important thing is getting the carpet out, but I don't want to paint after the new flooring is in. I also don't want to walk around on OSB for several months, but it's becoming a pretty tempting option right this moment.

Who puts carpet in the damn bathroom?
